Description

Built in the Moorish Style between 1863 and 1871, the Old Synagogue or Alte Szil was destroyed during World War II. Pfeiffer's photo conveys the full magnificence of the synagogue, which was among the most beautiful buildings in pre-war Łódź. Around it one can glimpse the pre-war architecture of Wolborska Street—these buildings are gone today.
