Pusta Street (present-day Wigury Street), corner of Piotrowska
Title
Pusta Street (present-day Wigury Street), corner of Piotrowska
Description
In this photograph, taken at the junction of Piotrowska and Pusta Streets, we see two government buildings, built in 1825–1826, rising up on either side of Piotrowska. Before the war, one of these buildings housed the Ignatowicz Brothers delicatessen, and the other was a working bakery and confectionary. Pusta Street, which owes its name to the relatively sparse character of its original built environment, became a hopping public space during the interwar period. Traffic in the area picked up around the turn of the 20th century after a number of small factories and two factory owners' villas were built there.
