Title

Panorama of Łódź

Description

A panorama of Łódź at the end of the 18th century in a stylized picture from the 1960s or 70s. In this artistic rendition, Łódź is shown during the pre-industrial phase of its history, when it was still a small agrarian settlement. We can see the principal roads—including the most important Piotrkowska route, which connected the cities of Łęczyca and Piotrków Trybunalski—and the two plazas, Plac Kościelny around the wooden church and market (later known as the Old Market Square). In front of the picture we see the river Ostroga (incorrectly referred to as Łódka), with a pond and mill. A fragment of a stylized Latin inscription with a legend of the map appears in the upper right corner.
