Living conditions
Title
Living conditions
Description
The living conditions in Bałuty were very difficult. Families crowded into small apartments, and the streets were filled with filth. The Bałuty district was predominantly inhabited by Jews, but some buildings were multiethnic and inhabitants coexisted peacefully. During the interwar period, the local authorities and the Jewish community leaders took steps to improve these conditions by installing electricity, providing healthcare, and addressing issues such as child malnutrition. Audio includes excerpt from “Komorne” (perf. Bolesław Norski-Nożyca)
